1st June School Opening - updated 27th May

This article is contains information relevant to you if:

  • Your child is in Nursery (Turtles), Reception (Dolphins), Year 1 or Year 6 and you have told us they are retruning to school the week commencing 1st June, or
  • Your child is in a Key Worker group and you have told us they are retruning to school the week commencing 1st June, and/or
  • Your child is accessing the home learning available on our school website

 

Before you read on for the practical details of reopening, please take a moment to read this short article that contains very good advice on supporting your child with their return to school.

 

The guidance the school published on 21st May detailing how we will reopening on 1st June has not changed.

The information below is new information that is not in the above guidance and must be read by parents of all children returning the week commencing 1st June.

Social Distancing

When waiting to enter the school site and on the school site please try at all times to be 2m away from others. If your child is walking t school on their own, please support them with understanding how to do so and the importance of doing. Where possible, cones will be set out to encourage this.

What to Bring

It is important that children bring as little as possible in and out of school.  If pupils bring in items of stationery, this must stay in school until further notice. Please do not let your child bring anything in they may want/need at home – this includes home learning books and reading books.  All items brought to school must be taken straight to their classroom.

All children to bring in the following:

  • Coat if necessary
  • Sun hat if necessary
  • Sun cream already applied (staff will not be able to apply this during the school day)

 

Nursery (Turtles), Reception (Dolphins) and Year 1 to also bring:

  • A spare change of clothes that will stay in school.

 

Nursery (Turtles) to bring

  • Packed lunch if required

 

Years 1-6 to also bring:

  • Water bottle

 

Lunch

Food will be provided for all pupils in Reception, Year 1 & Year 2 who want one through the Universal Free School Meals. We are currently organising this with our provider and will communicate options as soon as possible to enable parents to choose take up this offer or to provide their own.  The food provided is likely to be a packed lunch.

Pupils in years 3-6 will need to bring in a packed lunch

Drop off and Collection Routines

Nursery (Turtles) children

  • Parents will bring their child to the back gate entrance (top of Kingsley Avenue) at 9:15am where a member of staff will greet the child and let them into the FS unit.  Children will wash hands on arrival and settle into their teaching group.
  • Staff will greet parents at the back gate entrance (top of Kingsley Avenue) at 3.15pm and their child will be called from the group and handed over to their parent.

Reception (Dolphins) children

  • Parents will bring their child to the back gate entrance (a the top of Kingsley Avenue) at 9am where a member of staff will greet the child and let them into the FS unit.  Children will wash hands on arrival and settle into their teaching group.
  • Staff will greet parents at the back gate entrance (top of Kingsley Avenue) at 3.00pm and their child will be called from the group and handed over to their parent.

Year 1 children

  • Parents will bring their child into school using the side gate entrance from Richmond Road, at 9am.  Cones will be spaced 2m apart to support social distancing.  A member of staff will be on duty to direct the children to the Year 1 classroom and the parents is to leave via the staff car park gate.  Children will wash hands on arrival.
  • Parents to queue outside the door at the main entrance to the school and staff will greet parents at 3.00pm. Their child will be called and handed over to the parent

 

Year 6 children

  • Parents will bring their child into school using the side gate entrance from Richmond Road, at 8:45am.  Cones will be spaced 2m apart to support social distancing.  A member of staff will be on duty to direct the children to the Y6 classroom and the parent is to leave via the staff car park gate.  If a child arrives at school by alone at 8:45am they will go directly to the Y6 classroom.  Children will wash hands on arrival.
  • Pupils can leave via the school car park gate at 3.15pm.  If a parent is collecting their child please enter the site via the side gate from Richmond Road and meet them on the bottom playground and exit via the school car park gate.

Key worker children (in Years 1, 2,3 & 4)

  • Year 2, 3 & 4: Parents will bring their child into school using the side gate entrance from Richmond Road, at 8:45am.  Cones will be spaced 2m apart to support social distancing.  A member of staff will be on duty to direct the children to the Y3 classroom and the parent to leave via the staff car park gate.   Children will wash hands on arrival.
  • Children will leave at 3.30pm. Staff will supervise the collection of pupils being collected.  Parents are to enter the school site via the side gate from Richmond Road and meet their children on the bottom playground and exit via the school car park gate. Children who walk home alone will leave via the school car park gate.

Key worker children (in Years 5 & 6)

  • Year 5 &6: Parents will bring their child into school using the side gate entrance from Richmond Road, at 8:30am. Cones will be spaced 2m apart to support social distancing.  A member of staff will be on duty to direct the pupil to the Y5 classroom and the parent to leave via the staff car park gate.  .  If a child arrives at school by alone at 8:30am they will go directly to the Y5 classroom. Children will wash hands on arrival.
  • Children will leave at 3.30pm. Staff will supervise the collection of pupils being collected.  Parents are to enter the school site via the side gate from Richmond Road and meet their children on the bottom playground and exit via the school car park gate. Children who walk home alone will leave via the school car park gate.

Any pupil who has not been collected at the correct time will remain will a member of staff from their teaching group on the bottom playground.

Home Learning and In School Learning

The home learning will continue to be posted on the school website and in the same format.  The learning in school will not necessarily follow that of the home learning.

Key Worker Weekly Needs

We will continue a weekly booking system for the days you require.  The email to book has been changed to booking@appledore-primary.devon.sch.uk This email account has not been activated yet, so please do not email any bookings through to this account until you have received a text inviting you to do so.
