AROUND THE CLASSES

This week has been all about Easter. We have made our cards, printed with different objects to create egg shapes, designed our own easter eggs and melted chocolate to make our Easter nests.

This week we have recapped what we learnt about suffixes and prefixes. We have also learnt the rules about adding ‘ing’ to a verb. In Maths we have continued to measure. We have used rulers to measure objects and used rulers to draw lines that are certain lengths. Our beans are growing very nicely and we have recorded how much they have grown. This morning we had an Easter Egg hunt, we found eggs with letters in and had to use resources we found in the jungle and on the playground to recreate our letter. We then swapped our letter for chocolate eggs. Hope you all have a lovely and relaxing Easter Holiday.

In Year 2 We finished learning about 2D and 3D shapes. They have named the shapes, identified the properties and drawn the shapes. This week they have finished designing and cutting out the felt for their puppets. Some have started to sew these and those that haven’t will finish after the Easter Break. On Thursday, they enjoyed an Easter egg hunt in the playground. They have all worked very hard this term and should be very proud of themselves. We hope you all have a relaxing Easter Break.

This week in year 3 we have learnt about minibeasts, reading a book a called Dear Dr K Fisher about minibeasts talking to dr Fisher about their problems . We had to make up our own class version of this book, including a spider who was annoyed about having to work hars spinning and web a caterpillar who was said about wtaching all her friends become beautiful butterflies. We had to write a letter and a response. In maths we have been learning about Fractions.

This week in Year 4 we have completed our book making in english, fractions in maths, our sceince unit ‘sound’ and have also come to the end of our topic ‘Romans’ and will be learning about our new topic ‘rivers’ after the Easter break. We finished making our Roman shields in art and have taken some great pictures of the children with their shields! We will take a class photo after half term of the children making a Roman formation, before sending them home with the children. Have a lovely Easter!

Beechcroft have finished off all their topic work on ‘space’ and now thinking about next terms topic on ‘Africa’. In numeracy we have looked at how we add and subtract fractions with different denominators. We have started to read the book ‘The Tear Thief’ for our literacy work at the start of next term. Well done to the choir for their performance at Bideford College this week. Have a restful Easter break but keep learning your times tables.

Year 6 have enjoyed researching about people this week in order to create a biography – it’s been fascinating learning so may new facts! In maths we have looked at data and conversion graphs and we also linked maths and art, refining our geometry skills with rulers and protractors. A revision pack is being sent home for Easter to try and keep skills ticking along – it is designed to help not hinder so please do what you can. We hope to order class hoodies after the holiday so look out for more information. We also have a trip on June 15th to Oceanfest. Happy Easter!

We wish you all a super Easter break,
Jeremy Cooper and all the staff and children
