A week of musical treets that has included our House Disney Sing-off (well done Pacific for securing top spot), being sung to by Year 5 (no comment on the song choice!), Year 6 ukulele paying (great swinging accompaniment Henry!) and this afternoon’s

What a performance!
Well, year 4 really showed us how to display their learning with a cross-curricular extravaganza that was a treat for all parents and relations who came to see it. Centred around their learning all about the Romans it included instrument playing, singing, dancing, playscript writing, drama, public speaking, art and maths. Great work Year 4 and Mrs Smale and all the other helpers.

Sports News
Last Friday we took a mixed year 4 and 5 team to a football tournament at Shebbear College. The team played with great spirit and resolve, drawing two games 1-1 and losing against the vitors and runners up by only 1-0 respectively. It was a pleasure to take them and their conduct was appreciated by the organisers.

AROUND THE CLASSES

After looking at turtles and dolphins in detail we have look at sea creatures in general this week. We have found where in the ocean live, grouped them according to their characteristics and spotted them in a clip from The Little Mermaid. We have painted pictures and made 3D models of them. Today we made some sea creature biscuits.

We have had a great day at Rosemoor. The children behaved brilliantly and impressed us with how much they remembered about plants. They were able to build on this knowledge by exploring the gardens and by asking questions during our workshop. Lottie made a great apple pip and James was a beautiful apple blossom! Thank you to everyone who helped out on our trip, we really appreciate you giving up your time. This week we have written our final dragon descriptions, started looking at fractions in Maths and our Philosophy session used the story of The Prodigal Son.

This week a dragon’s egg appeared in the jungle! Lundy Puffins had to imagine what type of dragon it could be and then write instructions for how to catch it. Their descriptions were amazing! In Maths, they revised multiplication and division. On Thursday, they enjoyed a visit to Rosemoor in the beautiful sunshine. They had to search for minibeasts, look at them with magnifiers and then draw them. Some children even found a toad! They were all very well behaved and polite.

Sea Hunter have been busy this week! in science they have completed an experiment about pulling as a force. In maths they have leaned all about angles and how they can be measured. We have alos been learning new songs and parents are invited to come along to the classroom for 3pm next Friday (18th May) when we will be performing them. We hope you can make it.

This week HMS Echo have enjoyed learning a new song linked to our topic of ‘rivers’ teaching them about the journey of a river. They were also busy at the start of the week rehearsing songs for their Roman play. In Maths, we have continued with our work on decimals and should be ready to move on to a new unit next week. For English the children have written up and edited their stories ‘The King of the Cats’. Next week we will look at the skills we need to work on and then the children will invent and write up their own stories. In philosophy this week we ended up discussing two questions which came from a story we read in the book ‘The World’s Worst Children 2’ called ‘Spoilt Brad’. ‘If you had little and somebody gave you more, would you expect this to happen or would you accept it?’ and ‘If you were poor would you use things more than if you were rich?

Beechcroft have completed their fantastic stories based on the tear thief. These are now on display on the writing wall near to the hall. In maths we have completed our unit on multiplicative reasoning and started geometry. Fridays will now involve during outdoor maths. This week we are using our knowledge of area to decide if the longest leaves have the biggest area. We all enjoyed taking part in the house singing competition and looking forward to our cricket session. In philosophy we debated would be prefer the life of an elephant or a giraffe. The final decision was 50/50. After reading the story, Elmer and the Hippos we discussed the question ‘ Should we accept others differences?’.

Year 6 have been practising their skills ready for SATs and have all worked really hard – we have our fingers crossed for next week. The advice is relax and sleep well – you’ve put in the hard work so just show what you can do. We have started thinking about our end of year performance – a very exciting prospect and should have news about upcoming trips and dates soon. Don’t forget breakfast at 8:45am next week. Please remember SOE3 forms for Exeter on 23rd May.

We wish you all a super weekend,
From Jeremy Cooper and all the staff and children
