A brilliantly productive last week with many highlights, not least the transformation of our main corridor art gallery from textiles display to our focus this half term on printing and a wonderful whole school get together to sing at each others – what a way to end a short but busy term! 

This is always the term we really see the children accelerate in their learning and the assessment information I have just received from teachers certainly evidences that, so the certainly deserve their break and the chocolate this holiday brings.

Thank you to those who completed the parent survey. Common themes were communication (both positive and improvement suggestions) and extending school meals to years 3-6. 

Hot Meals

In addition to the existing provision of school meals for Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 as part of the Government’s scheme for free school meals for this age group, the school is considering making available hot school meals for children in Years 3-6 from September 2019 for parents to buy. Communcation

Comments regarding communication were varied. We always try to get information to you as soon as possible and due to the intended audience and/or the nature of content it can necessitate communicating in different ways. In a further attempt to become more consistent we will endeavour to send letters originating from Appledore School as an email attachment and store a copy in the Parents/Letters & Forms section of www.appledore-primary.devon.sch.uk.

As always, please ensure we have the current email and mobile number of the primary contact because this is to whom messages will be sent.

The Trustees of the Atlantic Coast Cooperative trust  ( which consists of 9 primary schools in North Devon) are looking to appoint a highly organised individual with a professional manner and effective communication skills to support its work. Duties will include attendance and minute taking at Trustee’s meeting, the preparation and electronic distribution of agendas, minutes, documents and correspondence for all meetings, maintaining an annual cycle of Trustees  business, supporting the induction of new trustees and guiding the Trust Board  on procedural matters. Discretion and flexibility, plus excellent organisational and computer skills are essential in this role.

The role is offered at with a minimum  20  hours per annum and the potential for more,  on a self employed basis,at £15 per hour   to be worked in flexibly to fit in with the cycle of the Trust Board business during the year. The ideal candidate will already be registered as self employed or will would be willing to do so,

Once again the North Devon Surf School are now offering your child the opportunity to learn to surf with professional instructors at their award winning Centre of Excellence in Westward Ho!

An eight week programme of lessons will run on Fridays 3.45pm – 5.45pm from the Surf School in Pebbleridge Road starting om Friday 26th April.

It is for age 7 upwards. Children don’t need to be expert swimmers, water confidence is more important.
