AROUND THE CLASSES
This week Turtles and Dolphins have been finishing off our Christmas cards, decorations and presents. We had our party on Tuesday and Father Christmas walked past our window before leaving some presents for us. We watched our Nativity and hopefully you have all seen it now – didn’t the children do well?! We just want to say have a Merry Christmas, stay safe and we will see you in the New Year.
How good was that? It has been an amazing Term in Year 1 and I am so pleased with what the children have been able to achieve. This week we have been busy finishing off our units of learning. The children have written some fantastic Christmas stories in literacy. They have learned about shapes in maths, including creating their own Christmas wrapping paper with repeating shape patterns. It was great to see so many parents joining us on Tuesday for the children’s Christmas performance. The video will be on the children’s Google Drive today. I was touched earlier this week to receive an amazing Christmas hamper from the parents. Very unexpected and a wonderful surprise. Thank you all very much. What a super term Lundy Puffins have had! We are very proud of how hard they have all worked and how well they have adapted to all the changes we have had to make this half term. They have published some fantastic books this week based on their Augustus and his smile stories. There are some real improvements in their handwriting. Well done everyone! We wish you and your families a peaceful and relaxing Christmas and look forward to seeing you in the New Year.
Seahunter have had a brilliant first term in Year 3. They have grown so much in their attitude to work, play and respecting one another, as they have made the transition to Key Stage Two. They should be really proud of their effort and progress, particularly returning to school under such unusual circumstances.
HMS Echo have been busy completing work this week ready to start new units after the holidays. In Topic, the children have learnt about what the Romans brought to Britain and then made beautifully presented pop-up books of a Roman town! The class also learnt about the gladiator games and created their own advertisement for a gladiator. In Science, we have been observing the changes to egg shells when they are left in different liquids, to think about the effects that liquids we drink have on our teeth. We have been working on our times tables a lot, and will be continuing to learn how to multiply and divide using different methods in the New Year. Well done on a successful term in Year 4 and have a lovely Christmas!
Another busy week in Y5! We have been learning about perimeter and area in Maths and trying to complete our work on Florida in Topic – we will have to finish in the first week back as we still have to find out about hurricanes! We have made Christmas cards this week; we have created 3D elements using a padded tissue paper circle – look out for our amazing Christmas puddings, reindeer and snowmen (just a few of our ideas). In Outdoor Learning we used tools to create either planters, signs or a game. In doing this, we were thinking about the properties of the wood we used had and why it was suitable for the job. We really enjoyed watching the Nativity plays from FSU and KS1 – thank you for sharing! We wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. In English, Year 6 have finished writing our stories based on ‘A Christmas Carol’ by Charles Dickens. We now know how Scrooge changed the error of his ways and became a charitable man. For maths we have been working on fractions and decimals. We have also done quite a lot of end of term maths tests. In Topic, we have been learning more about WW2, The Battle of Britain and discovered what happened at the end of the war. We looked at both VE Day and VJ Day. For Outdoor Learning we have been working on the war garden and finding out about the ‘Onion Club’. We played a game which involved us taking cover in the Anderson shelter if a German plane was spotted. We have enjoyed watching the KS1 and Foundation Stage Nativity plays. They certainly made us think about how long ago it was since we performed these! We thank all the children in these classes for sharing their shows with us.
