Experiencing Challenging Behaviour From Your Child at Home?
If the answer is yes, Bis-Net are have a podcast with advice and run a anumber of courses. All courses (click here to book) run 9.30am-2.30-pm and include:

Cricket for Girls
On Monday, Devon cricket came into deliver cricket sessions for girls. If your daughter enjoyed the cricket and is interested in taking it up, your nearest cricket club is Bideford and Littleham Cricket Club at Westward Ho!. They run a session just for girls on a Monday evening and also sessions for boys and girls on a Friday, starting at 6pm. For more information, contact Andy Davies on 01271 314306

AROUND THE CLASSES
This in FSU week we have been looking at the features of Africa, we have read the story ‘Handa’s Surprise’ and named the fruit she used. We have looked at the clothes they wear and the buildings and how are they different and the same as ours. We have learnt a couple of African songs which we are going to sing to you at our Open Afternoon – this is on Tuesday 16th at 3pm. If your child doesn’t attend Turtles on this afternoon please see Miss Olliffe to arrange a date. We have painted sunsets and drawn African animals on the top and we have looked at some weaving.
This week in Year 1 we have continued our work learning about sea creatures using the book ‘Somebody Swallowed Stanley’. We have written descriptions using similes and adjectives to describe sea creatures and we have thought of rhyming pairs of words. In Maths we have been learning about money. We have been recognising coins and notes and solving problems using money. Next we are learning to tell the time. On Tuesday afternoon we watched the Year 6 play, it was brilliant. Thanks Year 6 for inviting us to watch it.
This week Lundy Puffins have written some amazing stories based on the ‘Dragon Machine’. They have tried hard to use all the skills they have acquired such as choosing interesting verbs and adding detail to their sentences to tell the reader when and where something has happened.
In Maths, they have focused on fractions and have been revising halves, quarters, thirds, two quarters and two thirds. They have been finding fractions of shapes and numbers. They enjoyed watching the Year 6 play on Monday afternoon and have been finishing posters to tell people how to grow plants. As the weather remains warm, please ensure your child has a water bottle and a hat in school and has had suncream applied. This will especially important for next Tuesday, when they will take part in sports day.
Seahunter had a great to start to the week with some impressive progress for many in swimming. For the rest of the week, we have been busy with end of year assessments and lots of science. The children had an amazing attitude to their assessment tasks, particularly reading. They were all keen to beat their personal best scores and used the skills they have been developing. We were very impressed by their maturity and determination. In science they discussed whether they think it is true that most of humanity and life would not exist if insects were wiped out. It created some good discussion and led to exploring what insects do for us. We have looked at pollination, learning a song to help us remember the key facts. We will come back to our discussion next week and see if anyone has changed their opinion and why.
This week in Maths, HMS Echo have been learning about Geometry and looking at identifying, ordering and comparing angles, and completing symmetrical shapes. In English, we watched the video clip ‘The Girl and the Fox’ and created our own narratives focusing on rich descriptive writing. As we are coming up to the end of term, the children have taken their end of year tests. For P.E, we have been developing our rounders skills and played a game of rounders. For Topic, we have been looking at the impact of flooding on people who live near rivers. The class had a great time on our trip to Westward Ho! and really enjoyed learning more about animals and their habitats linked to Science!
This week, year 5 visited the Burton Art Gallery to take part in a Dazzle art project – look for their handy work outside the gallery when you next pass by. In maths, they have been competing translations of shapes and in literacy finishing writing about trips and work towards their Arts Award. They have also completed regatta posters in art and are busy working on set designs for their performance to parents on Monday afternoon.
Y6 have had a fantastic week! They did three performances of their play; one to the whole school and two for parents. Thank you to everyone for your support in learning lines, getting costumes ready and coming to watch. On Thursday we sailed to Lundy. It was the most perfect day. Sailing was smooth (no seasickness), weather good, everyone on their best behaviour. We saw dolphins, puffins, ponies, sheep and seals. We went up the lighthouse, out to the castle, and into the cave used by Thomas Benson to keep slaves. Thank you to all the family members, and staff, who joined us for the day to make the event special.
