Apledore Library Event
Appledore Library is having an Elmer day at the Library on Saturday 26th May 10am- 12pm. It’s a free drop in with Elmer themed crafts and books to borrow
Family Fun Day
Bideford Ladies FC is holding a family fun day at Victoria Park, Bideford that includes bouncy castles, face painting, raffle, sumo wrestling, bbq, craft stalls, bubble football and much, much more on Sunday 3rd June 12-5pm
AROUND THE CLASSES
This week in FSU we have thought about how we can save our seas. We have identified different materials of objects and looked at man made and natural materials. We have talked about beach cleans and how we can help look after the seas around us. We have also painted pictures of the sea.
We have learnt lots about the Great Fire of London this week in Year 1. Samuel Pepys came in to our class and told us about burying his cheese, wine and gold to protect it from the fire. We asked him questions and found out lots of information. We also pretended to put out the fire, we worked as a team with Year 2 to pass cups of water down to the fire and then passed the empty cups back. We had lots of fun and got very wet! In Maths we have been learning about Position and Direction. We have made treasure maps and written directions to find the treasure, we have also given and followed directions with our friends. Our Philosopy session this week used the text ‘Only One You’ we discussed the question ‘Why is it important that we are all different?’. We also made fish like the ones in the book to celebrate how we are all unique.
Lundy Puffins had a great day on Friday taking part in ‘Tennis All Stars’ with a local tennis coach. In the afternoon, everyone enjoyed taking part in the house cross country. This week, they have been completing their Key Stage One assessments in small groups and have coped with these very well. Well done everyone! In P4C, they read a book called ‘Only one you’ and the question they discussed was: Should you always be yourself? They have worked hard all half term, so we wish you all a relaxing half term break.
Seahunter have been busy writing ‘Sea Monsters’, an anthology of silly poems. You can see a copy on display and tehre are three other copies children can take home to show you. They have be learning ‘Don’t Worry, Be Happy’, which has been fun and noisy! We wish you all a very happy half term
The children in HMS Echo have been developing their skills on time this week and have showed good understanding. We have a few more lessons to complete after half term and then we will be moving onto shape. The class have published their own versions of ‘The King of the Birds’ which you can find on display in the corridor! In Science, they have worked in groups to plan an evaporation investigation which we will carry out after half term. For P.E, we have continued to develop our skills in athletics, such as running and jumping. Have a lovely half term and we look forward to our trip to Northam Burrows on the Tuesday back!
Beechcroft have just finished writing their African animal journals; the end results are fantastic. In maths we have been looking at reflection & translation of shapes and regular & irregular polygons. We have produced some amazing sunset pictures, with the African animals and trees in silhouette. In philosophy we looked at how our lives compared to those in rural Tanzania and how we should appreciate the resources we have. Thank you to all the parents and pupils inn Y5 who made cakes for our cake sale today. We are raising money to support Lilungu school in Tanzania.
Year 6 have been completing leaflets about Bristol and solving maths mysteries. They have also begun designing a Lunar Park within a given budget. They had a trip to Exeter on Wednesday and have been praised for their behaviour and knowledge from the gentleman at the Synagogue. We have started looking at our end of year play and are holding auditions before the holiday to allocate parts – lines will then need to be learnt. Please make sure you read the letter with dates for your diary – it is a busy few weeks when we return from half-term!
