Early Christmas in FSU?
It felt like Christmas had come early in FSU today with much excitement and reapid unwrapping of parcels underway, and I’m not talking about the children! Mrs Bannister, Mrs Duda and all the other teachers in FSU were excitedly unwrapping all the new furniture that arrived early for the children to begin using.

AROUND THE CLASSES
FSU are now in the full swing of Christmas, making decorations, decorating the classroom and rehearsing our Play. We have read the Christmas Story and thought about why we give presents at Christmas, we have sequenced pictures of the story and written some captions to go with the pictures. We look forward to seeing you Tuesday to perform our play to you.
In writing in Year 1 we have been adapting the story of ‘The Tiger Who Came To Tea’. We have written our own versions called ‘The Dinosaur Who Came To Dinner’. In Maths we have started looking at Shape, we have learnt the names for some of the 2D and 3D shapes. We did some magic, we put 2D shapes into a bag, said a magic word, blew into the bag and a 3D shape came out! We found a suitcase in our classroom and worked out that the items inside belonged to a fossil hunter; Mary Anning. We have researched her life and recorded the information we found out. We have also put the finishing touches to our Nativity. Thank you for all your help organising costumes, just a reminder that the performances are next Wednesday at 2 and 5:30. Please bring your children back to school by 5:15, in their costumes.
This week in Year 2 has been all about the Nativity play for Lundy Puffins. A dress rehearsal was completed and they are all ready to show you on Wednesday 13th at 2pm and again at 5.30pm. Just a reminder that you can take your child home in their costume after the first performance and bring them back in costumes for the evening performance by 5.15pm. In English, they have been writing stories inspired by the John Lewis Christmas advert from a couple of years ago ‘Man on the Moon’. They wrote letters to the man on the moon to ask him lots of questions. In Maths, they have been finding out about different coins and making different amounts with those. In topic work, they have found out all about a lady called ‘Mary Anning’.
Seahunter enjoyed working on their products for the Christmas fair this week. They created beautiful pom-pom snowmen and salt dough Christmas trees. They have also completed some end of term assessments in reading and Maths this week and all worked hard to beat their scores from the start of term. It was fantastic to see such focused, determined attitudes and they all achieved their aim. In science they sorted food packaging in to different food groups; protein, carbohydrates, fruits and vegetables, fats and sugars and dairy. They will be using the ‘Eat Well’ plate to plan healthy meals including these food groups. This week, we have seen lots of children nominating each other for inclusive stickers (linked to the whole school theme this term) as they have been really looking out for each other, which is lovely to see.
For Maths this week, HMS Echo have started to look at measuring length and perimeter of rectilinear shapes and will be completing this unit next week. The class have had a busy week working on both a reading and maths test to see where they have made progress this term. For P4C this week, the children came up with the big question of ‘If you do something unkind, will you always get the same feeling in return?’. Earlier in the week, the children spent time making cinnamon salt dough and decorating them with care, to sell at the Christmas fair. Before the Christmas fair, the Year 1 class came to join us in the afternoon to watch Arthur Christmas. Both classes also sung to each other some of the Christmas songs they have been practising and all sung beautifully.
Beechcroft have been busy completing their end of term assessments this week. They have been really pleased to see how much progress they have made over the term. Well done Y5. We have painted tea lights and made snowmen for the Christmas fayre. In literacy we have written our ‘overcoming the monster’ stories and these and now being published. On Thursday we walked down to the Baptist Church for the Open the Book assembly. Next Tuesday we are looking forward to watching the performance of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe at Kingsley School.
Year 6 enjoyed their Rolle Canal and Christmas performance at the Community Hall on Friday and extended their theatrical skills with some of the class leading the ‘Open the Book’ assembly at the Baptist Church on Thursday. They have been working on diary entries as Scrooge in literacy and adding and subtracting fractions in maths. In art they created some pop-out Christmas cards and have also been completing their Arts Award booklets – any comments about their recent performances would be greatly received to go in their books – it is this weeks homework task to ask for comments. We will be using old Christmas cards for Art on Tuesday so if you have any lurking about, they would be greatly received.
