LOCAL EVENTS
Saturday 3rd of June is the date for the annual Appledore Village Green Fete. Lots of fun and games for the whole family on Saturday the 3rd of June starting at 12:00 in the back field (at the end of Pitt Avenue) – one of the most spectacular views in the village!

Try your hand at the Steam Boat ‘Scrap Heap Challenge’ and float your boat on Victoria Park! There will be plenty of sciencey activities, all for free, to try your hand at, whatever your age. Make a Brush Bug buzz, make circuit boards boom or simply bounce on the inflatables! Come along and get constructing…. we want to help you make your day!
New Summer School/Holiday Club at Appledore School
The Splodge Summer School will be running here at our school this Summer holiday for children currently in Year One to Year Six. Sessions will run from 10am until 3pm Monday to Friday. Splodge is run by Kate Harvey (our art coordinator at Appledore School) who is looking forward to lots of arty Summer fun with the children. We are now taking bookings for the weeks beginning Monday 7th August and Monday 14th August. AROUND THE CLASSES
This week FSU have been designers and makers as our story has been The Elves and the Shoemaker, we have made little shoes and socks as well as large shoes and socks. We have been shop keepers and customers in our shoe and welly shop, learning about the different coins and making different amounts.

This week, Year 4 have had a busy week, including a trip to Westward Ho! and the Burrows. Although the weather was slightly damp, we enjoyed finding creatures in the rock pools. These included a very vicious shore crab and a spider crab covered in algae. In the afternoon, we learnt all about the sand dune habitat. In maths, we have ordered and compared decimals and converted measures. Our Literacy was a recount of our trip. For cookery this week, we all helped to make a fruit salad with a dressing served in an ice cream cone. There were very few leftovers!!
This week has been a 1-day shorter week. However, in Year 6 we have still fitted in a lot of work. On Monday, Tuesday and Thursday we used up lessons to create, modify and fly parachutes (both of ours miserably failed twice). We also did a bit of maths in which we did changing around expressions i.e. changing the numbers in an algebraic fashion to make it easier for us. We also did some poems with Mrs Evans which have been typed up and saved in her private folder. But it is also available to see if a parent were to come in. We also did a bit of drumming where we worked in groups of 1 – 4 outside on the top playground. We also did a bit of science in which we wrote up an investigation of how our parachutes had been made and modified. In other news, and I’m sure you’re aware of, we have got guinea pigs! They have officially been named: Richmond (after one of the road our school is on), Kingsley (another one of the roads) and not sure about the last one – any suggestions? We have been taking turns to look after the guinea pigs and soon another class will be inheriting the ability to look after them. Finally, we did a bit of ICT on penjee (a coding website).
