Newsletter for the week ending 20th December
Dec 20, 2019

Today brings to a close a long and very busy term and week! The last couple of weeks have presented us with our magical nativity performances firstly by Turtles and Dophing and closely followed by Years 1 and 2, rounded off by our Key Stage 2 carols service yesterday that was truly uplifting.

A bog thank you to all of you for your support of these and everything else this term. Please read on to find out more about what has been happening in and around school...

AROUND AND ABOUT THE CLASSES

This week in Turtles and Dolphins we have been making all of our Christmas cards, calendars and presents for you. We read the story 'The Jolly Postman' talking about the letters and then we wrote our own letters for the postman to deliver. We enjoyed singing to the rest of the school this morning. Thank you to everyone for your help with the costumes for the play and we wish you all a Merry Christmas.

What a great week to end a great term in Year 1. The children performed brilliantly in the Nativity, all their hard work paid off in an incredible performance. Thanks to everyone who came and watched it. This week we have been busy finishing our Australian adventures and recording them in our diaries. We have also been completing some Christmas themed problem solving activities. We hope you have a wonderful Christmas break with lots of time to relax before next term.

Year 2: Thank you all for coming to watch the Christmas performances on Tuesday and for helping children to learn their lines. We hope you enjoyed it as much as they enjoyed performing it to you. They sang and acted beautifully; well done everyone! In English, they have been finishing their stories based on 'Augustus and his smile'. They tried hard to use interesting vocabulary which shows they had listened well to how they could make their stories interesting for the reader. In Maths, they have completed assessments to show how well they have done this term. Lots of Christmas activities have been completed: Christmas cards, decorations and Christmas colouring. They have worked hard this term and deserve to have a rest! Mrs O'Shea, Mrs Smale and I (Mrs Stanbury) wish you all a relaxing and peaceful Christmas and look forward to seeing you in the New Year.

This week HMS Echo have been busy completing units of work before the Christmas holidays! They have finished publishing their versions of 'A River' which you will be able to find on display after half term. For Topic, they have written up their river poems in best and completed their World River booklets. We have had a look through the end of term Maths and Reading tests that the class carried out. In Science, we learnt about states of matter and how they can change. Have a lovely Christmas!

Y5 have been busy completing this terms work. Assessments have been completed in reading, maths and grammar. Well done to everyone for working so hard this term. The country projects, set for homework, have been amazing. Our new topic for the spring will have a health focus and Y5 will look at The Plague. Y5 have a wonderful Christmas with your families and we will see you in the New Year.

Year 6 have enjoyed performing in the Christmas festivities this week - as many as wanted to, spoke in the church and they did an amazing job! We have finished The Christmas Carol in Literacy and problem solved in maths. We also enjoyed the film Skellig on the last day, which was linked to our reading comprehension. Don't forget your writing about 'connections' and money for crackers in the New Year, if you forgot. Have a great Christmas and be restful, ready for the hard work next year!

Have a wonderful Christmas everybody and we look forward to seeing you back on Monday 6th January.
From Jeremy Cooper and all the staff and children.
